Yesterday 67 keen players arrived at Padstow RSL to battle it out. It was exactly 12 months ago that I was unable to attend the 25th Anniversary of the Sydney Scrabble Club due to a bad case of Vertigo.
Congratulations to Nick Cavenagh in Recreation section winning 8 games out of 8, scoring the High Game with 519 and High Word, FOXIEST 105. Due to a cancellation by a player because of illness, Shelley Cartwright was promoted from Recreation to Intermediate and promptly won her section. Well done Shelley! Mark Smith proudly won Advanced section with 7 wins and Rod Talbot hung on to win Masters with 7 wins. My highlight of the day was against Ed Okulicz with INTERNS for 111. He informed me later that I had 10 "E"'s so I accepted his nickname for me "Jammy Jean" LOL. The success of a tournament is a great working team which I certainly had.
Thanks again to Wilma Vialle as Tournament Director which she does admirably and to Lee McGiffen as Look-up. As usual our catering was in the the capable hands of Gay which she does to perfection.
