Problems with Acrobat Reader?
If you are having problems downloading the PDF files into Acrobat
Reader, the most likely problem is that you are using Netscape
as your main browser and it is not properly handling Acrobat Reader
as a plug-in. This can be easily fixed by altering your Netscape
configuration so that Acrobat Reader is launched as a separate
application. The necessary procedure is outlined below.
- Open File Manager or Windows Explorer
- Locate your Netscape directory (most likely at c:\netscape)
- Locate the
plugins subdirectory (most likely
at c:\netscape\plugins)
- Delete whichever of the following files (nppdf16.dll
or nppdf32.dll) appears in this subdirectory:
- Close File Manager or Windows Explorer
Next, you must configure Netscape to use Acrobat Reader as a
helper application.
- In Netscape, choose Options, then General Preferences.
- Select the Helpers tab then click the 'Create New Type' button.
- For the Mime Type, type "application"
- For the Mime Subtype, type "pdf", then click OK.
- Next, single click on this new Mime Type.
- For File Extensions, type
pdf.
- For Actions, Select Launch the Application.
- Click on Browse and locate where you have kept your
acroread.exe
(most likely in the c:\acroread\acroread.exe) and type that
in this box.
- Click OK to finish.
