Rules of Play

ASPA (NSW) uses the National Rules, with three minor variations. One of these variations relates to the use of clocks, which is mandatory in NSW once a player has taken part in three tournaments, while another variation relates to the procedure to be adopted at the end of the game. The actual changed and additional wording can be viewed in NSW Variations to National Rules.

At the national level, a Tournament Etiquette document has been produced, and generally this covers the conduct of players in matters not directly relating to the rules of play eg distracting the opponent, kibbitzing.

ASPA (NSW) also maintains a Dispute Register. This contains details of situations that have occurred during a past tournament, along with the ruling that was given at that time. In most cases, the situation is too complex or unlikely to warrant a rule of any kind.
