The qualifying period was Good Friday 2006 to Easter Monday 2007 (thus including two national championships).
Eligibility: All team members must be Australian citizens or permanent residents on Easter Tuesday 2007,
be a financial member of ASPA on Easter Tuesday 2007 and must
have played 100 rated games in the qualifying period.
Players who win major titles
A maximum of two eligible players are selected by winning a prestige tournament, namely
(1) The winner of the 2006 Australian Masters (Bob Jackman)
(2) The winner of the 2007 Australian Championships
If either of these berths is unfilled for any reason, the place is taken by another player selected via ratings.
In addition, David Eldar qualifies as the Winner of the 2006 World Youth Scrabble Championships. David also won the Australian Championships, so the extra spot is filled by rating.
Players who qualify via ratings
All remaining eligible places will be determined by ratings as follows
The qualifying statistic is Q = (P1 + P2 + 2 x P3)/4 , which is a weighted average of peak ratings in three trimesters (subperiods of the qualifying period).
Trimesters start 14 Apr 2006, 1 Aug 2006 and 1 Dec 2006
You must have an all time rating history of at least 150 games before peak 1.
A trimester peak is counted when you have played 12 games in the trimester
A peak is zero if you play fewer than 12 games in a trimester
You must have played at least 90 games in the qualifying period before the last peak.
You must have played at least 100 games in the whole period
The secondary criterion is number of rated games within the qualification period.
If two players have the same Q statistic,
the one with the greater number of games in the qualification period is ranked higher.
Paul Cleary (currently rated 1832) is out, 0 games in period 1 so no peak.
Michael Cameron (currently rated 1795) is out, 39 games in period 3 so no peak.
Jimmy Scarff (currently rated 1713) is out, 0 games in period 1 so no peak.
